Happy Cast-Off Day!

Published by naturalmandy at 8:30 am under Uncategorized Edit This

Today is the day I have been dreaming about for six L-O-N-G weeks.  My three-year-old son got his full leg cast off!  Not that I didn’t thoroughly enjoy all the sponge baths and constant lifting of the forty pounder everywhere Wink.  I sort of expected him to come out of the Dr.’s office running full speed, but the poor kid couldn’t walk for a good four hours or so.  His knee was so stiff from being trapped inside that cast for so long.  Not to fret though, our bouncy boy was back to almost perfect this evening, favoring his ex-broken leg only slightly.

What I learned from this experience:

1)  When purchasing a fourteen foot trampoline, it should be mandatory for everyone in the household to show their birth certificate.  Furthermore, it should not be permitted into a house where children under the age of seven could use it and break their leg. (Yes, he was supervised and no, he didn’t fall off.  He landed funny after his first time on it. Happy birthday to him!)

2)  Never take for granted a clean smelling toddler.  Sure bath times can be a battle every once in a while.  I would have gladly picked a ‘no-bath-tonight-fight’ with him any day though.  Not being able let my son soak in a tub of water drove me crazy!  No matter how thorough our “special bath” (a.k.a sponge bath) was, he NEVER seemed clean enough.

3) This is a great tip for people who are going through a similar situation and are having trouble getting their kiddo to sleep; We realized near the end of this fiasco that the cast on his leg was so rough it was irritating his good leg during the night.   We started wrapping it up with an ace bandage at night to make it softer and instantly he slept better.  I have been kicking myself in the butt that I didn’t think of it sooner.  Undecided

Now that are “broken-legged-boy” is all healed up, and our “mystery-illness-wonder-of-a-daughter” is nearing her recovery, I am looking forward to *dare I say it* a long term love affair with Mr. SandMan.
